A bit of history

Founded in 1974, l'Empreinte cooperative first opened on Saint-Paul Street in Old Montreal, just a few steps away from its current location. Twenty or so artists of all disciplines were then looking for a place to show their creations.

"Looking back, I now realize how much l'Empreinte helped us evolve as craft artists. My involvement has benefited me on so many levels: sales, creation, human relations, sharing and learning about the importance of democracy." Paulette Naud, ex-member of l'Empreinte.

Today's cooperative, over 85 members!

Thanks to the dedication of its members, the cooperative now benefits from a wealth of expertise in the area of fine crafts. Though many have come and gone over the past thirty years, l'Empreinte's community spirit continues to thrive and inspire its artists to promote their artwork.

L'Empreinte's 22 active members share the various tasks related to running the boutique: repairs, maintenance, sales, administration, etc. Their strong commitment along with each artist's own unique style and talent has helped create the cooperative's distinctive and enthusiastic environment.
