Lidia Raymond, jeweler: minimalist jewels with a social impact

Lidia Raymond joaillière Montréal Québec

How long have you been a member of the co-op?
Since January 2014
How would you describe your work?
I love creating minimalist, meaningful and delicate jewellery in sterling silver. It's my way of helping women feel radiant and invincible every day and rewarding themselves because they deserve it (and tend to forget it!). Among other things, I make customizable family necklaces with charms for great moms and grandmas. Family necklaces are not just jewellery, they are charms to brighten up moms' everyday life. I create a new collection of minimalist jewellery every year, long live the new ones! This year's collection is inspired by the pandemic and the resilience it requires. It's jewellery to help women feel radiant and invincible every day.

As an artisan, what do you get out of being part of the cooperative?
It's my second family. It's enriching to be in contact with other artisans who are in the same situation and who are good counsellors. The cooperative is a place for exchange and mutual aid. As president of the cooperative's board of directors, I am discovering another way of managing a business, managing a team. It's a different challenge from what I experience with LIDIA. I have developed skills to be a better president (I hope!) that also serve me in everyday life. It helps me become a better version of myself.

Do you have a memory or milestone related to the co-operative that you would like to share with us on this page?

Recently L'empreinte was invited to participate in a video about the co-op. One of the members was supposed to do it but she got sick a few days before. So someone else had to do it for her... This is the kind of thing that takes me completely out of my comfort zone and that I usually avoid! I don't even do this for my own business because it bothers me. But I felt it was my responsibility as president of the co-op to take over. So I did the interview and it was a great experience. I can't wait to see the final result with the editing but the film crew seemed very happy with the result! I think it's a good sign! I am so proud to be a member of the co-op that I overcame my fears for the good of all. And finally I discovered a hidden talent!
