History of the Coop

1974 - The debut

L'Empreinte was born of a common impulse: to create a free, collective showcase for Quebec crafts.
A small group of passionate artisans opens a boutique in the heart of Old Montreal. Everything had to be done together.
The cooperative takes shape: members select works, welcome visitors, participate in all decisions.

A cooperative in motion

Over the years, L'Empreinte has become a benchmark. Hundreds of craftsmen and women follow in their footsteps, each leaving their mark.
The founding values remain: mutual aid, autonomy, commitment.
To this day, each member is involved in the operation of the cooperative, from reception and marketing to artistic direction and logistics.

Today's event

The cooperative has 21 active members and over 70 guest craftspeople.
It is one of the oldest member-run boutiques in Quebec.
More than a retail outlet, L'Empreinte is a space for passage, collaboration and creation.
A collective imprint, anchored in the present.

Our story in pictures

Since 1974, L'Empreinte members have brought the cooperative to life through their actions, their projects, their laughter and their commitment. These photos tell part of this collective adventure.

1974 - 1984: Birth of l'Empreinte

Stripping the vinyl floor, painting, building the displays... L'Empreinte takes shape step by step.

" It wasn't always perfect, but every stroke of the brush and every nail brought us closer together."
