contemporary weaving and leather goods
Julie-Soleil Nadeau
A 2005 graduate of the Montreal Centre for Contemporary Textiles, Julie-Soleil creates luminous, elegant and radiant artisanal weavings that exude her joie de vivre.
All her pieces are guided by a concern for comfort, which is why she uses soft, natural materials such as organic cotton, linen, alpaca and merino wool.
In 2020, she began a technique in leatherwork, which she completed in 2023, when she was awarded the Diane Tremblay Prix d'Excellence. It's the beginning of a love affair: she incorporates her weavings with leather, which harmonize perfectly with her creations.
Her pieces are created in the emotion of the moment, making her work unique.
MEMBER SINCE 2010
"I've always loved textiles since I was a child, their softness, their textures. I love playing with thread colors to find the perfect combinations, making weaving samples that will give me the desired texture, finding the marriage between my weavings and the different leathers for my leather goods collection.
My work space is very important, as it leaves room for my imagination and allows me to express myself through my creations. It's my playground.
I like to take the time to draw and write down all my ideas, to revisit them later, to rework them, I find it fascinating to see how they evolve."
"I decided to become part of l'Empreinte, to meet new people, share experiences and have the opportunity to learn about this model from people who are passionate about the same values. The boutique is magnificent, and working there is really enriching in terms of management and direct contact with customers, which brings a human dimension to our creations.
Each person who comes to L'Empreinte brings their own background, history and experience, which is a real asset for everyone, and what makes it so human and so beautiful. I feel privileged to be part of this wonderful cooperative."
"L'Empreinte is not just a place to work, it's a community that offers the sharing of knowledge, skills and resources. It fosters a place of exchange and ideas where everyone can emancipate themselves. This model emphasizes collaboration rather than competition. It brings stability to financial and operational management, with each member contributing to decision-making and sharing responsibilities, bringing continuity to the co-op.
Working in the boutique provides a unique experience for our customers, who not only acquire handmade products from Quebec, but also meet the artisan behind these creations, thus making a significant difference in Quebec's art world."
